About the Role:

The R&D Project Lead owns the physical build and validation lifecycle of every Maverick Power R&D project — from BOM release through prototype build, full testing, certification, and production handoff. This role is the hands-on technical lead for prototypes and test specimens, driving each unit from the first component receipt to a fully validated, certified, and release-ready design. Working in close collaboration with R&D Design Engineers, Production, Procurement, R&D Program Management, and Project Management, this engineer ensures every build is accurate, every test is thorough, every issue is resolved, and every deliverable meets Maverick Power's standards for quality and production readiness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all phases of prototype and test-specimen testing, from pre-test preparation through full mechanical and electrical validation.
  • Develop and execute test plans; collect, record, and maintain traceable test data and results for all test types including thermal, dielectric, short-circuit, mechanical, and environmental.
  • Partner actively with R&D Design Engineers throughout development — reviewing designs early and providing structured, actionable feedback on fit, function, assembly, and testability.
  • Translate hands-on build and test observations into detailed written feedback that enables rapid, effective design iteration.
  • Serve as the build and test execution lead on all assigned R&D projects, coordinating daily activities across R&D Design Engineering, R&D Product Engineering, Production, Procurement, R&D Program Management, and Project Management.
  • Drive project milestones on schedule, with clear ownership of prototype build, testing, certification, and release activities.
  • Communicate technical status, open issues, risks, and next steps clearly across internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Create and maintain complete project documentation including test plans, test reports, validation records, build observations, BOM updates, drawing feedback, corrective action logs, and release packages.
  • Ensure all validation packages and release documents are accurate, complete, and auditable before handoff.
  • Verify that released designs meet Maverick Power internal quality standards, performance requirements, and production-readiness criteria.
  • Deliver validated design packages to Production Engineering and actively support the transition to manufacturing.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in product engineering, prototyping, design validation, field service, or R&D engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with LV/MV electrical equipment such as switchgear, switchboards, transformers, or related power distribution products.
  • Hands-on mechanical and electrical aptitude with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional project execution with disciplined follow-through.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and validate engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of material to a high standard of accuracy.
  • Working knowledge of DFM, DFA, prototype build practices, and manufacturing constraints.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with consistent, disciplined documentation habits.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple active projects and competing priorities simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with short-circuit testing and high-power certification testing at KEMA, Powertech, or equivalent laboratories.
  • Working knowledge of UL 891, UL 1558, UL 67, UL 1008, IEEE C37.20.2, IEEE C37.20.3, and IEEE C37.20.4.
  • Demonstrated experience writing formal test plans, test procedures, and validation summaries.
  • Experience supporting production launch, training manufacturing teams on new product builds, and developing test training materials or procedures for production test departments.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods standing on the manufacturing floor and sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to fifty pounds at times.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, and work at heights for extended periods.
  • Prolonged periods sitting, standing, walking, and performing repetitive tasks.

Work Environment:
